Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a home assessment take?

Most home assessments take between 1 and 1.5 hours, depending on the complexity of your situation and the areas we need to assess.

Following the visit, you’ll receive a written report outlining our findings and recommendations.

Can family members attend the assessment?

Yes.

In fact, we encourage family members or carers to be present where possible.

They can often provide valuable information about day-to-day challenges and are able to ask questions about the recommendations made during the assessment.

Can you assess my Mum, Dad or another family member?

Absolutely.

Many of our assessments are arranged by adult children who are concerned about an ageing parent.

We are happy to discuss your concerns beforehand and explain what the assessment will involve.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No.

You can contact OTLife directly to arrange an independent Occupational Therapy assessment.

Do you sell equipment or stairlifts?

No.

We are completely independent.

We do not sell equipment, stairlifts, wet rooms or home adaptations, and we do not receive commission from suppliers.

Our recommendations are based solely on what we believe is most appropriate for you or your family member.

Can you recommend stairlifts, wet rooms or home adaptations?

Yes.

Where appropriate, we can advise whether adaptations such as stairlifts, level access showers, grab rails, ramps or other equipment may improve safety and independence.

Our recommendations are always tailored to the individual and their home.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible.

Please contact us to discuss your situation and we’ll let you know our current availability.

If your circumstances are urgent, we’ll always do our best to accommodate you.

Do you offer evening appointments?

Yes.

Evening appointments are the most common time for a visit.

Please contact us to discuss availability.

What areas do you cover?

We provide home assessments throughout Essex, including Upminster, Brentwood, Romford, Hornchurch, Chelmsford, Basildon, Southend and the surrounding areas.

If you’re unsure whether we cover your location, please get in touch.

What does the £375 assessment include?

Your fixed fee includes:

  • Home visit (up to 1.5 hours)

  • Assessment relating to the agreed referral reason

  • Discussion with family members if appropriate

  • Written report with recommendations

  • Practical advice and next steps

Assessments within 20 miles of Upminster are included. A £30 travel supplement may apply for appointments further afield.

What if I need more than one assessment?

The £375 fixed fee covers one comprehensive assessment relating to the agreed referral reason.

If additional specialist assessments or reports are required, we’ll discuss this with you beforehand and provide a separate quotation before carrying out any additional work.

Can you write housing reports?

Yes.

We provide independent housing assessments and reports where appropriate.

Our reports are objective, evidence-based and based on the findings of the assessment. We cannot guarantee any particular outcome or recommendation.

Will I receive a written report?

Yes.

Every assessment includes a written report summarising our findings, recommendations and suggested next steps.

The report is written in clear, easy-to-understand language and can be shared with family members or other professionals if required.

What happens next?

Simply call us to discuss your situation.

We’ll explain how the assessment works, answer any questions you may have and, if appropriate, arrange a convenient appointment.
