Stairlift & Home Adaptation Assessments in Essex

Independent Advice Before You Invest in Home Adaptations

Choosing the right home adaptations can make a huge difference to safety, independence and quality of life.

Whether you are considering a stairlift, wet room, grab rails or other adaptations, an independent Occupational Therapy assessment can help you understand what is most appropriate before spending thousands of pounds.

Stairlift Assessments

Many families ask:

“Does Mum really need a stairlift?”

“Would a stairlift help Dad stay at home?”

A stairlift can be life-changing, but it isn’t always the best or only solution.

During the assessment we consider:

  • Current mobility
  • Ability to safely manage the stairs
  • Balance and falls risk
  • Transfers on and off the stairs
  • Future needs
  • Whether alternative solutions may be more suitable

The aim is to recommend the safest and most appropriate option for long-term independence.

Wet Room & Bathroom Assessments

Bathrooms are one of the highest-risk areas of the home for falls.

If bathing or showering has become difficult, a professional assessment can identify practical solutions that improve both safety and independence.

Recommendations may include:

  • Level access showers
  • Wet rooms
  • Walk-in showers
  • Bath removal
  • Shower seating
  • Grab rails
  • Toilet adaptations
  • Non-slip flooring

Every recommendation is based on the individual’s needs rather than promoting a particular product or installer.

Home Adaptation Assessments

Small changes to the home can often make a significant difference.

An Occupational Therapy assessment considers how the property supports everyday activities and whether adaptations could improve safety and confidence.

This may include advice on:

  • Internal access
  • External access
  • Door thresholds
  • Flooring
  • Lighting
  • Kitchen access
  • Bedroom layout
  • Bathroom safety
  • Future planning

The recommendations are practical, realistic and tailored to your circumstances.

Grab Rails

Correctly positioned grab rails can improve confidence and reduce the risk of falls.

During the assessment we identify whether grab rails may be beneficial and advise on the most appropriate location and type.

This may include:

  • Entrance steps
  • Hallways
  • Staircases
  • Bathrooms
  • Toilets
  • Showers

Advice is always personalised to the individual and their home.

Ramps & Access Solutions

Steps at the front or rear of a property can make entering and leaving the home increasingly difficult.

An assessment can determine whether a ramp or other access solution would improve safety and independence.

We consider:

  • Wheelchair access
  • Walking frame access
  • Trip hazards
  • External pathways
  • Thresholds
  • Future mobility needs

Independent Professional Advice

Unlike companies who sell stairlifts, bathrooms or mobility equipment, OTLife provides completely independent advice.

We do not sell products or receive commission from installers.

Our recommendations are based solely on what is most appropriate for the individual.
