Housing Assessments in Essex

Independent Occupational Therapy Housing Assessments

Sometimes a person’s home no longer meets their physical needs.

Stairs become difficult to manage, the bathroom may no longer be safe, or access into and around the property becomes increasingly challenging.

An independent Occupational Therapy housing assessment provides a professional opinion on whether a person’s current accommodation is suitable for their functional needs and identifies practical recommendations that may improve safety and independence.

When Might a Housing Assessment Help?

A housing assessment may be appropriate if:

  • An older person is no longer managing safely at home

  • Mobility has significantly reduced

  • Stairs have become difficult or unsafe

  • The bathroom is no longer accessible

  • The property cannot be adapted to meet current or future needs

  • A housing provider, solicitor or family has requested an independent Occupational Therapy opinion

What Does the Assessment Include?

Your assessment may include:

  • Home visit (up to 1.5 hours)

  • Functional assessment

  • Mobility assessment

  • Assessment of access throughout the property

  • Consideration of bathroom and kitchen facilities

  • Review of stairs and entrances

  • Discussion with family members if appropriate

  • Written report with professional recommendations

Each report is tailored to the individual’s needs and circumstances.

Independent and Evidence-Based

Every assessment is completed independently.

Recommendations are based on:

  • Functional ability

  • Clinical reasoning

  • The home environment

  • Current and anticipated needs

Reports are objective and evidence-based.

What We Can Help With

We can provide independent reports relating to:

  • Suitability of current accommodation

  • Housing needs arising from disability or reduced mobility

  • Home adaptations

  • Accessibility

  • Falls risks within the home

  • Equipment recommendations

  • Independent living

What We Do Not Provide

To ensure every report remains objective and professionally independent, we do not:

  • Guarantee a particular outcome

  • Write reports designed to support a predetermined decision

  • Alter professional recommendations to meet a client’s expectations

  • Make decisions on behalf of local authorities or housing providers

Our role is to provide an honest, independent Occupational Therapy opinion based on the assessment findings.

Fixed Fee

Housing assessments are charged at our standard fixed fee of £375.

This includes:

  • Home visit

  • Assessment

  • Written report relating to the agreed referral reason

If additional reports or multiple specialist assessments are requested, these will be discussed and quoted separately before any work is undertaken.
